Why Strength Training Is Where Most People Should Start
When people decide they want to improve their fitness, they often think they need to begin with cardio.
But for most people, strength training is actually the better place to start.
Strength training builds confidence first.
It helps you feel more comfortable in your body. It improves how you move day-to-day. And it creates a foundation that makes everything else, including cardio, feel easier later on, whether that’s running, walking, cycling or swimming.
When I started rebuilding my own routine, the gym came first. It gave me structure again. It helped me feel stronger physically and mentally before I ever thought about distance or pace.
That foundation made a huge difference when I later introduced different types of cardio alongside it.
Even now, strength training is still a core part of my weekly routine unless I’m preparing for a race.
Movement is built around that same idea.
You don’t need to already feel fit to begin.
You don’t need to be confident walking into the gym.
And you definitely don’t need to have everything figured out before you start.
Strength training is often the first step toward building routine that lasts.
Because once you feel stronger, everything else starts to feel more possible too.
